🏚 My #Backrooms #moviereview : Would have given it a 12/10, BUT for its 3rd ACT –like OTHER, more recent #Horror / #Paranormal #films , basically veered off into TWO other sub-genres, I #rate Backrooms 8/10 .* Spoils ahead …- Absolutely LOVED the first 2 Acts (yes, movie industry sometimes still use this term for segments in films) — Utilizing the modern Horror classic #FoundVideo #genre ( #theblairwitchproject )! – There’s even a part in the movie where, I swear, the #screenwriter, #WillSoodik (* story based on one by #YouTuber #KaneParsons) Must have recently watched the 1962 #TwilightZone episode #LittleGirlLost — where there’s a wall of the basement of #protagonist – Clark’s ( #ChiwetelEjiofor ) furniture business that acts like a #portal & he chalk out a drawn door!- * ok, the key of this #Review – #blog is my critique of the last Act. So, we went from #ParanormalActivity-esque creepy, then the road to the #plot split into two other sub-genres:- 1) The #Creature — Clark’s “alternate- #ego , is the #Slinderman -like #pirate. I get it; Tall Pirate kind of manifested Clark’s drinking & anger problems. But, honestly, I think a better #Antagonist could have been good ol’ fashioned PEOPLE with nefarious motives!- 2) i’m more impartial to THIS second branch of the fork-in-the-road plot: the #Async researchers! The organization–though very small part of the film–kind of takes on an #XFiles vibe.Love that, & is a better sub-genre than Clark’s Slinderman, imho…#Soodik. could have stuck with them. But, i still think even Async complicated Backrooms’ plot more than it needed to.- Acting by #Ejiofor & his co-protagonist, Mary by #RenateReinsve (& everyone else, too!) was outstanding & felt natural–VERY important to me as an indie author & a geek into #SciFi & Paranormal-Horror movies!- Look, Backrooms is STILL great & I HIGHLY recommend watching it! – Joseth Moore .** PS: I LOVE 80s-retro!
